Pageflakes is an Ajax-based start page similar to My Yahoo!, Google Personalized Homepage, and Microsoft Live. The site is organized into tabs, each tab containing user-selected modules called Flakes containing information such as RSS/Atom feeds, Calendar, Notes, Web search, weather forecast, del.icio.us bookmarks, flickr photos and user-created modules.

[edit] History

Pageflakes was launched at the end of 2005. The site is run by Pageflakes Ltd. based in Germany. The ethnicity of the company's founders is notably diverse[1], with three of the them coming from Bangladesh. The company was privately funded to start with. Benchmark Capital invested an undisclosed amount in May 2006[2].

[edit] Underlying Technology

Some of the major components used for building the framework are ASP.NET 2.0, Atlas and JavaScript. However developers building flakes can use a more diverse toolset[3].
