Paddle tennis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Paddle tennis is a racquet sport invented in 1898 by Frank Beal. Rules and scoring are similar to tennis, but there are a number of key differences: smaller court, smaller hard-surfaced paddles, spongy solid ball, only one served allowed. On the East Coast, paddle is primarily a winter sport played on an elevated, wire mesh-enclosed courts. Heating units can be added for snow management purposes but all play is open to the elements. Shots rebounding off the mesh are in play. Shots hit over the mesh are out of play. Like tennis, paddle tennis can be played as both singles and doubles, but doubles is traditionally the game of choice. The game uses quick reflexes and a lot of up close net play.
A somewhat similar game with the same name is played widely in the Spanish-speaking world, particularly Spain and Argentina. It is also called Padel_Tennis.
