Eptatretus stouti |
The Pacific hagfish (Epatretus stouti, also known as the slime eel) is a species of hagfish.
The hagfish is notorious for its slimy skin. When disturbed, they ooze a chemical from their skin that rearranges its molecules, expanding into a huge mass of slime. This makes them very unsavory to predators.
In many parts of the world, hagfish-skin clothing, belts, or other accesories are advertised as "yuppie leather."
