Oztion is an Australian-owned auction site, built as a competitor to the Australian arm of eBay. The company was founded in 2005. According to the site, there are more than 350,000 items available for auction or purchase. As of late January 2007, there were over 110,000 members.

[edit] Community

Oztion has a large forum network that is used for both website-side purchases and wanted items.

The system uses a feedback system similar to eBay. When a user gives an "Excellent" rating to a seller, that seller is credited with two positive feedback points. The lowest, a "Never Deal" results in a negative two score.

[edit] Prohibited items

A number of items are not permitted to be sold on Oztion. Notable examples include:

  • Adult items (unless added to the "Adult" category)
  • Animals
  • Human body parts
  • Drugs
  • Perishable foods - Other foods must be correctly expiry-date labelled.
  • Weapons
  • Fireworks
  • Washed postage stamps - To prevent stamps simply being "washed" down and resold.

[edit] Promotions

Oztion permit members to earn money to their account by spreading Oztion. They earn cash to their account if a new member signs up through their web page, email, or word of mouth suggestion. This money can then be used to pay for Oztion fees (address verification, for example).

Oztion also released plans for a radio and television advertising campaign in November. This campaign featured an explanation of how to pronounce the name of the auction site (Aus-Sion). A television advertising campaign has also been announced.
