From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Oystermouth Castle is located overlooking Swansea Bay on the east side of the Gower Peninsula near the Welsh village of Mumbles. The castle was first owned and built by Henry Beaumont, the first Norman to become a lord of Gower. His family owned it until the 13th century when King John passed ownership to the De Breoses In the 13th century the de Breoses were lords of Gower and held the castle, and towards the end of the century Oystermouth rather than Swansea became their principal residence. Edward I paid a brief visit here in December 1284.
