Oxytone

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oxytone (/ˈɑksətoʊn/, from Greek oxytonos “having an acute accent”) is a linguistic term for a word with stress on the last syllable, e.g. the English words correct and reward. Related terms are paroxytone (stress on the penultimate syllable) and proparoxytone (accented on the antepenultimate syllable). French is notable for having nearly all of its words like this.
