Oxford Road, Reading

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oxford Road, Reading is a major arterial street in Reading, Berkshire, England, near the town centre. It leads west, the road continuing eventually to the city of Oxford.

In the past, the crime rate in the area has been very high. However, it has, and is, continuing to develop into a better area. Over the last ten years, there has been significant investment into the area to improve the standard of living and the environment from both commercial and private investors.

With local investment, the area close to town has turned into a safer and better place to live. There are still some areas where the crime rate is high, but this is a symptom of most areas of towns and, as is often the case, this can seen to change from road to road.

The new Chatham Street Development, currently under construction, offers possible improvement for this part of Reading with a £250 million investment scheme, including new shops, accommodation, services and leisure facilities.

Part of the road is designated the A329.
