Owyhee

Owyhee derives from an old spelling of Hawaii based on a report from Capt. James Cook stating that that was the native name of the islands. Compare with his Otaheite for Tahiti.
It may refer to any of the following, all presumably inspired by Cook’s name for Hawaiʻi and its inhabitants:
- the Owyhee River in southwestern Idaho, central northern Nevada and southeastern Oregon
- its similarly-named tributaries
- North Fork Owyhee River in Oregon and Idaho
- South Fork Owyhee River in Idaho and Nevada
