Owner-operator
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An owner-operator is a type of business owner, who typically works and runs their own business. An owner-operator will usually be responsible for day-to-day operations, such as inventory, finances, labor control, etc. Owner-operators will usually work several hours, and be present at the location of the business in some form, most of the day.
An owner-operator is the opposite of an absentee-owner. An absentee-owner will usually not be involved in day-to-day function of running the business, and will leave such tasks to managers.
Naturally, an owner-operator will usually gain larger profits from that individual business. An absentee-owner may realize smaller profits, however, has the option of owning several businesses, since they are not restricted to one location.
The majority of small business and franchise owners are owner-operators.
