[edit] Constructivist architecture

I noticed this article after you added it to the template Modernarch. I am very impressed, and hope you continue working on it to the point of featured article. Two things to take in mind though is it does not have footnotes or references the addition of which will greatly improve the article. Let me know if there is anything I can help with in finding your way around Wikipedia. Regards, DVD+ R/W 20:17, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

I'd like to second that - fantastic work - maybe you'd be interested in joining the Wikipedia:WikiProject Architecture, Kind regards --Mcginnly | Natter 23:15, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:P golosov pravda.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:P golosov pravda.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. JeremyA 17:28, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chernikov image

Hi Owen, nice to see you've returned and are working on the refs. Take another look at Image:Chernikhov hammer&sickle.jpg, esp. the talkpage. Jmabel proposed that this might be {{PD-Russia}} which would be an improvement on the licensing. If it makes sense, please change the template to this. Regards, DVD+ R/W 19:39, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Ok, I'm glad that is settled. At some point I'm going to move the public domain ones to the Commons (or you can do that if you want) so that they can be more easily used in articles in other languages. DVD+ R/W 19:56, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
Sorry to bother you again but could you take another look at Image:Vesnin-pravda-s.jpg and other pics you've uploaded to see if they are PD-Russia and retemplate them? I'll bring them over to the Commons tonight, I'm eager to see Russian versions of these articles. DVD+ R/W 20:15, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
And two more tips for now: try to minimize the lists - as they are unneccessary once the figures are already mentioned or linked in the text (but like a grocery list, if it is helpful in organizing use it - remembering though that it is not itself what you are after); and expand the lead section. Happy editing, DVD+ R/W 20:57, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Constructivism

Hi Owen, no problem - I'll be adding some more as and when I find them. I wonder if we should give a brief introductory contextual paragraph, rather than starting the article in 1919 with the tatlin tower. Frampton gives a quite a good write up of pre-constructivist russia context so I might add that. I've also been doing some wider reading - my excellent "dictionary of modern thought" portrays constructivism (include art rather than just architecture) as

"applied a three-dimensional cubist vision, inspired by the sculptor Alexander Archipenko and Picasso's reliefs of 1912-1914, first to wholly abstract non-objective 'constructions' within a kinetic element (1914-1920) and thereafter to the new social demands and industrial tasks of the time. It was thus made up of two threads 1) the concern with space and rhythym expressed by Anton Pevsner's and Naum Gabo's Realist manifesto and 2) a tussle within the Education Commissariat between supporters of 'pure art' and a more socially-oriented group headed by Alexei Gan, Alexander Rodchenko and his wife Varvara Stepanova who wanted this art to be absorbed in industrial production.

The "tussle" is implicit in the article so far, but perhaps we should make it more overt. A mention of the Proletkult would be useful too I think. --Mcginnly | Natter 19:24, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Mossehaus1.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.
