Overture is the last track on the NWOBHM band Def Leppard's debut album, On Through The Night. The song is somewhat different from the rest of the album on which every track is under 5 minutes long. An earlier version of the song was recorded on the independently released Def Leppard EP. Rush's 2112 was an obvious influence during the writing of the track, in particular the lyrics which like 2112 speak about priests. The name "Overture" may also have been taken from the first part of 2112.
Some critics accused Def Leppard of inproper use of the word Overture for the title of their song as it formally means simply an opening of a piece of music, not a whole song.
The song Overture is not to be confused with Def Leppard's cover of 10538 Overture by Electric Light Orchestra taken from their 2006 covers album Yeah!
