[edit] Transformers: Generation 1
Overload (called Bomber in Italy) was the name of an Autobot Micromaster who turned into a semi-truck. His trailer turned into a jet.
Function: Troop Transport
Motto: "Know your enemy and he's yours."
Bio: A bold and daring soldier. Often breaks away from cargo-hauling missions to join his fellow Autobots on the battlefield. A tactical genius on the front line. Trailer converts to turbo-boosted, supersonic fighter jet armed with wing-mounted, double-barrelled machine guns. Laser guided, lock-target scanners provide pinpoint firepower. Capable of reaching speeds in excess of Mach 2. Also equipped with hydrofoil capabilities.
[edit] Transformers: Armada
Overload (Ultra Magnus in Japan).
[edit] Animated series
Apparently a non-sentient weapons platform crafted by the Mini-Cons at the same time as they recreated Optimus Prime's body, Overload can convert from vehicle mode into a set of cannons and combine with Optimus Prime for added firepower. He is also shown to possess a robot mode, seen only once in a crowd scene, but shows no signs of any intelligence or life. Overload's toy is packaged with the Mini-Con, Rollout (Magnus in Japan), who appears in the show in his role of Overload's cab and head, but in a capacity even more minimal that his larger partner's.
[edit] Dreamwave Productions
Overload and Rollout were given more personality in the Dreamwave Armada comic book series.
Motto: "I serve at the will of Optimus Prime."
Function: Planetary Staff
Bio: Commissioned by Optimus Prime during the second year of the Earthen Confiict, the Overload weapons system was developed by a team of Autobot scientists led by Science Officer Red Alert. The system was built in an effort to create a "one-mech" defensive system capable of taking down a starship. Being the only Autobot with the superstructure strong enough to withstand the bonding process, Optimus Prime courageously accepted to be outfitted for it. In trailer mode, the system is connected to and controlled by Optimus Prime and can be instantaneously activated by the voice activation code "Powerlinx Overload," The system can only be activated by the voice prints of Optimus Prime, Red Alert, or its Headmaster component, Rollout Upon activation, the Overload system combines with Prime's exterior in the form of two massive shoulder-mounted plasma cannons. In robot mode, the system becomes an extremely powerful mechanoid controlled by the Mini-Con Rollout.
Weapons and Abilities: When Powerlinking, the Overload system is capable of magnifying Optimus Prime's physical strength by approximately 80 percent and is able to multiply the potential firepower of his internal weapons systems tenfold. As a trailer, the system's primary plasma cannons generate enough concussive force to penetrate up to two feet of trithyllium-steel.
Weaknesses: Since Overload is primarily an A.I.-based weapons system, the unit contains no "true" personality and is essentially useless unless controlled by either Optimus Prime or its Headmaster component, Rollout. Its excessive fuel consumption is also a major concern.
[edit] Transformers: Energon
Overload was repainted into Energon Ultra Magnus.
Armada Overload continued to appear among the Autobots in the Transformers: Energon comic series by Dreamwave.
[edit] Costco Overload
Although part of the Armada Line, a yellow recolor of Overload and Rollout were sold exclusively at Costco that are unofficially considered part of the Transformers: Universe toy line.
[edit] Transformers: Universe
Overload was also the name given to a Micromaster who turns into a train, a member of the Railbots. He is the first U.S. release of the Japanese G1 Micromaster named San Diego. He combines with the other Railbots to form Universe Railracer (Sixtrain in Japan).
[edit] Transformers: Energon
Armada Overload was recolored blue and released in the Energon line as Ultra Magnus.
