Over the Hedge is a video game based upon the 2006 film.

In the game, you can play as four of the characters from the movie: RJ, Hammy, Stella, and Verne.

An interesting and very noticeable fact in the game is that not one single actor from the movie voiced their character in the game, but they were replaced with soundalikes.

There are several mini-games as bonuses in the game.

In the video game, which takes place about a year after the movie, RJ, Hammy, Verne, and the gang feel that they need to have more things for the log (the area behind the hedge). This leads them on a wild romp through six different areas to snatch different things such as a popcorn machine and a TV for themselves.

All through the game, they try to take these things while avoiding the Sniffer, (Dwayne the Verminator), who tries to defeat them by using mind-controlled vermin he has captured as his "henchmen." At one point, many animals, including weasels, badgers, and even Vincent the bear are controlled.

[edit] Gameplay

The gameplay of the full, 3-D console versions allows you to play as RJ, Verne, Hammy, and Stella from the movie. There are two different kinds of attacks: melee and ranged. The melee attacks are predictable for this type of game. Weapons include golf clubs, sticks, baseball bats, plungers, and other such items. The ranged attacks are equally predictable, you can throw boomerangs, frisbees, and shoot golfballs. Typically, these attacks can be charged up. Then you have energy attacks, projectile weapons, and things to pick up and throw at enemies. Such as RJ uses a golf club, Verne uses a hockey stick, Hammy uses a stick (but uses a boomerang as a projectile), and Stella uses a plunger (but uses a frisbee as a projectile).

The game has several pickup weapons, such as weapons that other characters have that you don't (i.e., another golf club). There are guns that start out from a toy ball launcher, then a freeze ray and a lava blaster.

Even though there's not much need of it, you can always jump and double jump. The game also includes the feature that allows you to press a button on the second controller and join in, as well as pause the game and drop out. There are also plenty of obstacles and hazards to overcome, as well as objectives to complete, extras to collect, and mini-games to play.

The game also has an array of hats, which when collected make a humorous sound. These include a chef hat, a crown, a witch hat, a hockey helmet, and various others.

Several locations from the movie (and some that aren't) appear to give you more playing ground than the suburbs, your home-base being the woods where all your loot is. You can also switch around between the four characters to give the storylines some slight twist, as each character says something different when a situation arises, so you can slightly alter the story, making for some replay value.
