Outstation

Historically, an outstation has been used to denote subsidiary homesteads on Australian cattle stations (ranches) large enough to have more than a day's travel between different parts of the property. However, since the outstation movement of the late twentieth century, the term has come to refer to small settlements of Indigenous Australians on their traditional homelands.
