In the Star Wars galaxy, the Outrider is the spaceship of the Corellian smuggler Dash Rendar. The ship is a modified YT-2400 freighter that has been modified for smuggling duty.
The ship is seen briefly in the skies of Mos Eisley in the 1997 Special Edition version of A New Hope. This is reportedly due to George Lucas greatly enjoying the Shadows of the Empire novel and story, and the fact that ILM had already created CG models of The Outrider for the PC and Nintendo 64 games from that project.
It can also be seen in the videogame Bounty Hunter starring Jango Fett. Outside the space station seen in the first level, The Outrider can be seen flying around during the cutscene.
This vessel was believed destroyed when it apparently collided with the remains of Prince Xizor's skyhook which was destroyed by Darth Vader; however, later sightings of Dash at various Outer Rim spaceports have fueled speculation that he faked his death with a well timed hyperspace jump.
[edit] Weapons
Like Han Solo's modifications to his YT-1300, the Millennium Falcon, Dash Rendar made several modifications to the Outrider as well:
- The hull interior is filled with military grade ion engines, weapons systems, power generators and many more creative modifications.
- Two heavy double laser cannons
- Two forward-firing concussion missile launchers
