"Out of the Shadows" is a song by British Heavy Metal band Iron Maiden and was composed and written by Bruce Dickinson and Steve Harris. The song is featured on their 2006 album, A Matter of Life and Death, which was released on August 28 in most of the world, and September 5 in the United States of America and Canada.
According to Bruce Dickinson the song is about being born and how the newborn is given special attention on its first day, therefore being a "King for a day." It should also be noted that Bruce mentioned at the Chicago 2006 concert that it was about waking up one day and realising life should not be wasted. During the AMOLAD World Tour in Manchester, England, Bruce announced on stage that the song is the odd one out on the album, as it wasn't written about religion or war, but instead about the feeling of waking up after a nightmare and realising that you're okay.
