Out of This World | Through A Glass Darkly (1978) |
Out of This World is compilation of atmospheric sounds and effects from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop released in 1976. The album was re-released, in 1993, as Essential Science Fiction Sound Effects Vol. 2 and is divided into four distinct sections (two on each side). These four sections representing a different themes are titled: "Outer Space", "Magic and Fantasy", "Suspense and the Supernatural" and "The Elements".
The album was produced by Glynis Jones and features sounds created by the various members of the Workshop. While many of the tracks are basic sound effects, such as those from the TV series Doctor Who, others can be considered as early examples of ambient music designed to create soundscapes rather than fulfilling a specific music or sound effects requirement.
