Ourtopia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ourtopia is a term coined by Garrett Jones in his 2004 book of that name. It denotes, not a utopia = 'no place' like Thomas More's island, but a planet restructured in such a way as to guarantee for each individual the best possible world. The book examines nationalism and ethnicity, armies and armaments, markets and consumers, children and education, crime and punishment, work and play, sex and relationships, globalism and the locality, with a final chapter enitled, An integrated ideal. Each of the preceding chapters has a fourfold structure, first Background, second Pros and cons, third Solutions and finally a 10-point list of the major changes required. Ourtopia was translated into Persian in 2005 and rated Book of the year 2005 by a scholarly Iranian Journal, Negaah-e Now (New Look).
