Our Own English High School is a chain of schools started by the Varkey Group of Schools across the cities of the United Arab Emirates. The first Our Own school was started in 1968 in Dubai.

[edit] Dubai Branch

Our Own English High School Dubai initially started with 400 students and a few teachers. Since then, it has mushroomed into one of the largest educational institutions in the UAE, with over 9000 students and 350 teachers. Till 2005, it followed a split shift pattern, with girls and the kindergarten attending school in the morning and the boys attending the school in the afternoon. At the beginning of the academic year 2005 (i.e March 2005), the boys' school shifted to Al Warqa'a, a far-flung locale. This allowed the boys' school to be run in the morning as well. Since then, the Al Warqa'a branch has been semi-autonomous of the main branch, with its own principal and bus colours.

The school follows and is affiliated to the CBSE curriculum.

[edit] Administrative Structure

The head of the school is a principal (Mr Madhav Rao in the main branch and Mr J T Mathai (Executive Principal) in the Al Warqa'a branch). The principal is subordinated by a headmaster. Below the headmaster are seven supervisors, one each for two grades (for instance one for grades three and four). Supervisors and headmasters are appointed from within the staff.

Mr. Hamid is the girl's head master. In 2007, he will retire and Mrs. Asha Alexander will replace him as the new headmistress.

Our Own High School, Al-Warqa'a has shown a brilliant board result for grade X. Mathew Koshy topped the school with 93.8% followed Francis Myladoor Thomas with 92.6% and Raaghav Murugappan with 92.4%

Whereas in the girls section, the topper was Tasneem with an aggregate of 93 percent. In the senior secondary school, Anchal Agarwal topped in the science stream with a whopping, record-breaking 96.8%.

Our Own English High School as well as the sister school Our Own High School boasts a productive and effective Student Council. At Our Own High School, Al Warqa'a, the Student Council is headed by President Pratik Desai and Vice President Francis Myladoor Thomas.

At Our Own English High School, Dubai the Student Council is headed by President Trishma Pinto and Vice President Kamala Ram, who was one of the thirteen finalists in the Best of the Best competition for singers conducted by Kevin Oliver along with her schoolmate, Shilpa Anand.
