Oulun Lyseon Lukio

Oulun Lyseon Lukio (Oulu Lyseo Upper Secondary School) is a Finnish school in the city of Oulu in northern Finland. There are about 50 teachers and 680 students in the school (2005). The school is the most renowned of about 10 upper secondary schools in Oulu.

Oulun Lyseon Lukio has been offering IB-study programme in English starting 1992. There are also some distance education programmes for small towns of Ylikiiminki and Tyrnävä.

In the autumn of 1874, Oulun lyseo started as a private Lyceum and it adopted Finnish as the official academical language. During the 1880's the school was admitted state aid and gradually the schools ownership was changed as state owned. In 1891 the first graduates were graduated from the state owned Oulun lyseo.

Oulun Lyseo moved to the current school building in 1890. The building was designed by architect Carl Ludvig Engel in 1831 as a trivial school, which was the first school in the northern Finland that lead to university studies. Descendant of this old school nowadays is the University Teacher Training School (Oulun Normaalikoulun lukio).

Oulun Lyseon Lukio boasts as the only school in Finland to have educated three presidents of Finland. School is also famous for its writers, novelists and poets.
