Oswald is one of the three original characters debuting in the video game The King of Fighters XI. There, he belongs to the Ash Team along with Ash and Shen Woo.

[edit] Story

It is revealed at the end of the tournament that Oswald joins Ash and Shen Woo to obtain drugs named 'Ryu-gan' (roughly translated 'Dragon pills'). Ash accepts him into his team because he knows Shen Woo knows something about those drugs, and he simply doesn't feel sorry when he tells everything to both his team mates, triggering the fight between the two while Ash leaves for his own business. That was within the contract, however: Oswald's price to join the group was money and some info regarding the drugs. Shen's price was a fight with a respectable opponent. Ash gives both what they wanted without much effort on his part...

[edit] Trivia

  • Oswald's fictional fighting style is allegedly based on a card game called Karnoffel, which is said to trace it roots back to medieval times. Since this "martial art" involves the slashing with and throwing of playing cards, many players have compared Oswald to Gambit, who has appeared in some of Capcom's fighting games. Oswald's Joker LDM is also extremely reminiscent of Gambit's "Royal Flush" Hyper X Combo.
  • All of Oswald's special/super moves are named in some kind of respect to the 52 card poker deck. "Ace", "Heart", Spade", and "10" are all present, for example.
  • Ideally, if the opponent is close enough when Oswald performs it, his Four Suits move ends with 21 hits. 21 is the most desirable number to be reached in Blackjack.
  • Oswald's Leader Desperation Move, Joker, does 53 hits (one wall-press and 52 cards). This puts it at third place in the SNK fighting game universe in terms of number of hits - Li Xiangfei's Majinga surpasses it, clocking in at 102 hits (though in King of Fighters 2001, the move is reputed to do 2001 hits on rare occasions), as does May Lee's Disposition Frog in King of Fighters 2002, which does 54 hits, (although only 5 of which actually do damage).
  • Oswald's Leader Desperation Move also marks the first time a King of Fighters game has used the "Charge Super" motion: in this case, Back (Hold) Forward, Back, Forward. It is also interesting to note that the LDM is Oswald's only charging move, whereas most Capcom fighting game characters with charging Supers use charging motions for their special moves as well.
  • According to the Internet Movie Database, Kong Kuwata, the same person who did Genjuro Kibagami's, Geese Howard's, Duck King's, and Neinhalt Sieger's voices, does Oswald's voice. This is especially odd, because Kong Kuwata did not return as Duck King's voice in this installment.
  • There might be Kamen Rider Blade references in Oswald's DMs. His DMs are "Royal Flush" and "Four Suits" (both are King Form Blade's finishing moves) and his LDM is called Joker (Chalice's true identity). Besides the fact that there's no "Royal Flush" in Karnoffel, it wouldn't be the first time SNK does something like this (Leona's Rebel Spark is a reference to Kamen Rider Black RX's finishing move and May Lee IS a reference to the original Kamen Rider).
