The Osireion at Abydos

The "Osireion" was a false tomb built by Seti I to the west of his mortuary temple at Abydos. According to later myths it was the burial place of Osiris. Linked to the temple of Seti I by a hallway although not accessible to the public.

Evidence is shown that the "Osireion" may have been built in the preydynastic times by the worshippers of Osiris, the god of the dead and the underworld. Seti I may have restored the Osireion as an effort for appease of the god or for the sake of himself and his afterlife.

[edit] Construction

This false tomb of Seti is constructed of finely crafted square granite pillars and in the ancient times covered by a stone ceiling. That ceiling is now gone and the tomb fully open. Depending on the Nile, the flooding of the "Osireion" is unpredictable. Construction dates of this tomb are (approximately) 3,000 BC. - 1,200 BC.
