Osage City is a city in Osage County, Kansas, United States. The population was 3,034 at the 2000 census.

Osage City is located at 38°38′3″N, 95°49′36″W (38.634069, -95.826759)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.0 km² (3.5 mi²). 8.8 km² (3.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (2.29%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 3,034 people, 1,232 households, and 815 families residing in the city. The population density was 343.5/km² (888.7/mi²). There were 1,303 housing units at an average density of 147.5/km² (381.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.31% White, 0.36% African American, 1.05% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.40% Pacific Islander, 0.53% from other races, and 1.29% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.34% of the population.

During recent renovations to the Santa Fe depot workers in the basement discovered the cemented tunnel entrance. The tunnel built in 1878 headed south under Market street to the Armands' hotel and came up thru a small underground room into the hotel. Water infiltration proved the tunnel unusable and was closed in 1879.

There were 1,232 households out of which 33.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.6% were married couples living together, 9.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.8% were non-families. 30.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.95.

In the city the population was spread out with 27.1% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 26.0% from 25 to 44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 20.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 91.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $31,979, and the median income for a family was $39,362. Males had a median income of $27,353 versus $21,514 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,227. About 6.8% of families and 8.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.5% of those under age 18 and 12.9% of those age 65 or over.
