  • to illustrate the object in question

Although not pictured, I feel this image is fair use in Pope Pius XII for the following reasons: savidan(talk) (e@) 05:46, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

  1. The image is of significantly lower resolution (copies made from it will be of inferior quality).
  2. No free or public domain images have been located for this event.
  3. The image does not limit the copyright owners' rights in any way.
  4. The image is intended to represent Pope Pius XII's relationship with Orsenigo and Hitler, the people in the photo. Its inclusion in the article is important because it represents a significant historical event discussed in the article. Orsenigo was a papal nuncio, a direct representative of Pius.
  5. The image and ones similar to it are used on various websites, so its use on Wikipedia does not make it significantly more accessible or visible than it already is. The image is being used for informational purposes only, and its use is not believed to detract from the original in any way.
  6. The image shows the assembly of the diplomatic corp as they wait to pay their courtesy call on the German head of state in 1935 and so illustrate the rital involved.

[edit] Description

Pope Pius XII's future papal nuncio in Berlin, Archbishop Cesare Orsenigo, with the diplomatic corp pays a courtesy call on the German head of state, Adolf Hitler (January 1, 1935).
