[edit] Purpose

This template is to tag fair use images which have been replace by a version with a free licence or by a better-quality fair use image, and which are no longer used in any articles.

[edit] Usage

{{Orphaned fairuse replaced|Image:NEWIMAGE}} or {{Or-fu2|Image:NEWIMAGE}} where NEWIMAGE is the name of the replacement image. You can also use the substitution template {{subst:orfur|Image:NEWIMAGE}} to automatically categorize by tag date.

[edit] named variable

The one reason to name the variable is that in the rare case where the new image name includes an equals sign, the positional form breaks and the named form doesn't, as I understand it. But that is a rare case. DES (talk) 20:14, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

And you can work around it with {{Orphaned fairuse replaced|1=Image:new=name.jpg}}. dbenbenn | talk 03:38, 18 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] too specific?

I don't quite see the purpose of the variable - most images that are going to be speedies under this criterion are going to already be orphaned when they're found. (I know all the ones I've been tagging are, but then, I find them because I view every article on afd as part of my efforts to track down incomplete nominations.) Maybe this should be moved to {{orphaned fairuse replaced}}, and keep {{orphaned fairuse}} for the generic case? —Cryptic (talk) 17:34, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

I created this when i encounter the specifi case of an image orphaned by a replacement image several tiems in a row. At first I didn't realize thwt the CSD applied even when there was no replacemet. i have now created {{Orphaned fairuse not replaced}} with shortcuts {{Or-fu-nr}} and {{Or-fu}}. I have move this tempalte as suggested, and it now has the shortcuts (redirects) {{or-fu-re}} and {{or-fu2}}. DES (talk) 17:33, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Cat by day

I've modified this category to categorise images by day now since the Toolserver is somewhat flakey at the moment. To avoid having to enter the date manualy simply use {{subst:or-fu-re|Image name}} instead of this cat directly. --Sherool (talk) 19:20, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
