Ormond Beach Middle School located in Ormond Beach, Florida, is home to 1040 - 6th, 7th and 8th grade students, and is a member of the Volusia County School District. OBMS is graded "B" by the Florida Department of Education. Teachers, administrators and students work daily to achieve excellence in academic and social growth. At OBMS, administrators move up with the students as they advance through the grades, thereby allowing a familiarity and camaraderie to be established between the students and staff. Ormond Beach Middle School offers Special Needs as well as Advanced Placement curricula to meet the academic diversity of its student population. Elective courses in Business, Media, Drama, Shop, Band, Orchestra, Home Economics, French, Spanish, Agriculture, Art, and Technology supplement the core studies of Mathematics, Language Arts, Geography (social studies), Science, Reading and Physical Education.
[edit] The Hinson Split
At the beginning of the 2005-2006 School Year, a new school built in honor of David C. Hinson, Sr. (was Area 1 District Superintendent until killed in a car crash) was opened and split the OBMS student population in half. Many OBMS teachers also were switched to Hinson. Ormond Beach Middle School is much smaller now due to this split.
