Orlando (horse)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Orlando was the name of a thoroughbred racehorse that won the Epsom Derby in 1844.
The racehorse had many successes before and after the Derby but never had as huge a success again. In 1853, Orlando was sadly put to death after breaking his leg in a fall during a race. His trainer at the time, Dean Francis, had this comment (as recorded in the Epsom Herald): "It's a tragedy. That racehorse will be missed". His words ring true today.
