Ori characters in Stargate

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the science fiction series Stargate SG-1, the Ori are a group of ascended beings who use their advanced technology and spiritual knowledge of the universe to trick non-ascended humans into worshiping them as gods. However, due to the protection of the Ancients, they are unable to directly interfere in the Milky Way, and are forced to rely on their human followers to do their bidding.

This is a list of Ori followers (and those posing as followers) who have thusfar appeared on the show.

Contents

[edit] Adria

Main article: Adria (Stargate)

Adria, an Orici, was created by the Ori to lead the Priors and the army of the Ori on a campaign for galactic domination. Her mother, Vala Mal Doran, was impregnated by the Ori while being trapped in their home galaxy. When the baby girl Adria, who Vala named after her "witch of a woman" stepmother, was born, she was taken away by the Priors. She rapidly aged to adulthood and was given the powers of the Ori, similar to the powers possessed by the Priors. This way, the Ori were able to bend the "rules" which prevent an actual Ori from directly interfering in the Milky Way.

By creating Adria, however, the Ori have a virtual representative of their will and power within the Milky Way, who is supposedly unstoppable. Adria is quick to demonstrate her power, by leading the conquest or destruction of dozens of planets within just a few weeks. She later informs Vala and the rest of SG-1 that at this rate the Ori will have completely conquered the Galaxy by the end of the year.

[edit] Damaris

Stargate character
Damaris
Race Human: Prior
Gender Male
Birthplace Unknown
Relatives Adina (Wife) Jaden and Allon (sons)
Portrayer William B. Davis
First episode "Babylon"

Damaris was a loyal servant of the Ori who was transformed into a Prior. Before his transformation he was married to a woman called Adina, and had two sons, Jaden and Allon.

Damaris was one of the Priors who were sent through the Stargate to the Milky Way to convert it to Origin. Among the cultures he visited were the people of P2X-885, where he came in contact with SG-6. During their undercover mission on the planet, Lieutenant Fischer was infected with the Prior plague, and later spread it to the Tau'ri when he returned home.[1]

Another society Damaris attempted to convert was the Sodan, who initially came to worship the Ori in the hopes that this would eventually gain them ascension.[2] However, after Damaris recruited the Sodan to wipe out a civilization of simple farmers who refused to submit to the Ori, Lord Haikon refused to attack their defenseless would-be victims. Damaris subsequently returned to the Sodan homeworld for an explanation, where he was awaited by SG-1 who had decided to test their newly discovered Prior inhibitor on him.

After several unsuccessfull attempts, cycling through frequencies, Damaris was cut off from his powers. SG-1 extracted samples of his blood, who used it to develop a vaccine against the plague he had infected Earth with through Lieutenant Fischer.

Eventually, General Hank Landry sent the formerly ascended Ancient Orlin to the Sodan homeworld in an attempt to turn Damaris. Orlin told him the truth, that the Ori have never ascended their followers, instead using their devotion to increase their power. However, Damaras was able to overcome the Prior inhibitor and attacked Landry, forcing Cameron Mitchell to kill him.[1]

[edit] Denya

Stargate character
Denya
Race Human
Gender Female
Birthplace Ver Isca
Portrayer Daniella Evangelista
First episode "Crusade"

Denya was a young woman living in the village of Ver Isca, who was considered the "village harlot".

After Vala Mal Doran was transported to the Ori home galaxy during her successful attempt to destroy the first Supergate at Kallana, she came in contact with Denya. After the two got to know each other and became friends, Vala became convinced that Denya was a member of the anti-Ori underground. However, unwilling to risk her life by simply trusting her, Denya had Administrator Seevis place her on the village altar to test her allegiance.

For three days Vala remained tied to the sacrificial stone. By the third day, Denya was convinced that she trustworthy, but Seevis was still unsure. Finally, her husband, Tomin, rescued her. Seevis allowed him to come to her aid, and finally became convinced that Vala was trustworthy. Both Denya and Seevis subsequently admitted they were members of the anti-Ori underground.

Following a failed attempt to sabotage several Ori battlecruisers, which would have killed tens of thousands present at the activation ceremony, Denya and Seevis brought Vala to an Ancient long-range communication device, allowing her to contact the SGC in the Milky Way. However, a Prior had told Tomin of Denya and Seevis' treachery, who eventually killed them both.[3]

[edit] Doci

The Ori speaking through the Doci.
The Ori speaking through the Doci.
Main article: Prior (Stargate)#Doci

The Priors are led by the Doci, who also act as mediators or mouthpieces for the Ori. They resemble ordinary Priors, although wearing a more intimidating attire. The Doci probably is one of the most devout believers in Origin, and arguing faith with him has proved to be pointless.

The Ori are seen only in their forms as fiery Ascended beings and apparently cannot communicate directly. The Doci presides over the Flames of Enlightenment, where the Ori dwell, and if the Ori wish to speak to the mortal world they possess and speak through the Doci. When this happens, the Doci's eyes glow fiery, and afterwards the Doci feels spiritually touched.[4]

[edit] Fannis

Stargate character
Fannis
Race Human
Gender Male
Birthplace Ver Eger
Portrayer Paul Moniz de Sa
First episode "Avalon, Part II"

Fannis was a human living in the village of Ver Eger and friend of Harrid and Sallis.

Fannis considered himself a historian, and led a group that had uncovered several artifacts on Ver Eger, artifacts contradicting the supposed creation of mankind by the Ori. These items were hidden from loyal Ori followers, who considered Fannis and his peers heretics, until they would one day have gathered enough evidence to convince even the most stubborn believer. However, Fannis kept his cover, attending Prostration and carrying a copy of the Book of Origin.[5]

Fannis realised that their beliefs might mean their death, and was prepared to risk his life in the hopes that one day, his people might realise the truth about their own history.

After Daniel Jackson and Vala Mal Doran had used an Ancient long-rang communication device and became trapped in the bodies of Harrid and Sallis, Fannis was more than willing to aid them. He eventually granted them access to another Ancient long-range communication device discovered by his group, which Jackson used to contact the SGC.

However, a Prior had tracked Jackson and Vala, and discovered the three over the device. Exposed as a member of the anti-Ori underground, Fannis was choked to death for his heresy.[4]

[edit] Harrid

Stargate character
Harrid
Race Human
Gender Male
Birthplace Ver Eger
Portrayer Stephen Park
First episode "Avalon, Part II"

Harrid was a human living in the village of Ver Eger and husband of Sallis.

Harrid, as a member of the group trying to uncover the truth about their people's history, realised that his beliefs could one day claim his life, and was forced to pose as a loyal Ori follower. However, he secretly hid items predating the supposed creation of humans by the Ori, including two Ancient communication stones in his house until his group would one day have gathered enough evidence to convince even the most stubborn believer.

After Daniel Jackson and Vala Mal Doran used an Ancient long-range communication device, Jackson's consciousness became trapped in Harrid's body, confirming his beliefs that the stones he kept hidden were communication devices.[5] However, in trying to return to his own body, Jackson alerted the Priors of Harrid's true loyalties.

Eventually, Jackson and Vala, still in the bodies of Harrid and Sallis, were put on the altar in their village, and sentenced to be burned to death. However, both Jackson and Vala were able to return to their own bodies in time, leaving Harrid to be killed by the fire.[4]

[edit] Sallis

Stargate character
Sallis
Race Human
Gender Female
Birthplace Ver Eger
Portrayer April Amber Telek
First episode "Avalon, Part II"

Sallis was a human living in the village of Ver Eger and wife of Harrid.

Sallis, as a member of the group trying to uncover the truth about their people's history, realised that her beliefs could one day claim her life, and was forced to pose as a loyal Ori follower. However, she secretly hid items predating the supposed creation of humans by the Ori, including two Ancient communication stones in her house until her group would one day have gathered enough evidence to convince even the most stubborn believer.

After Daniel Jackson and Vala Mal Doran used an Ancient long-range communication device, Vala's consciousness became trapped in Sallis' body, confirming her beliefs that the stones she kept hidden were communication devices.[5] However, in trying to return to her own body, Vala alerted the Priors of Sallis' true loyalties.

Eventually, Jackson and Vala, still in the bodies of Harrid and Sallis, were put on the altar in their village, and sentenced to be burned to death. However, both Jackson and Vala were able to return to their own bodies in time, leaving Sallis to be killed by the fire.[4]

[edit] Seevis

Stargate character
Seevis
Race Human
Gender Male
Birthplace Ver Isca
Portrayer Michael Ironside
First episode "Crusade"

Seevis was a human who served as Ver Isca's Ori administrator and local barkeeper.

Seevis was known as a loyal Ori follower, and appeared to have no compassion for "unbelievers". If he discovered anyone straying from the path of righteousness, his punishments were known to be severe, including placing them on the village altar for days at a time without food or water.

After Vala Mal Doran had become stranded in Ver Isca, Seevis was slow to trust her, and eventually placed her on the altar, claiming she was "unholy". Even after he allowed her to be rescued by her husband, Tomin, the two remained bitter enemies.

However, Seevis eventually turned out to be the leader of one of the anti-Ori underground cells, using his position as administrator for a cover. After having tested her true nature by placing her on the altar, he revealed this to her, as well as his plans for destroying the Ori battlecruisers under construction on their planet, along with the tens of thousands present at the activation ceremony.

Eventually, for unknown reasons the sabotage failed, and Seevis allowed Vala to use a smuggled Ancient long-range communication device to warn the SGC about the approaching Ori invasion. However, Vala's husband Tomin discovered them and killed Seevis, nearly taking Vala's life as well.[3]

[edit] Tomin

Stargate character
Tomin
Race Human
Gender Male
Rank Commander
Birthplace Ver Isca
Relatives Vala Mal Doran (Wife) Adria (Stepdaughter)
Portrayer Tim Guinee
First episode "Crusade"

Tomin was a devout Ori follower living in the village of Ver Isca and husband to Vala Mal Doran.

After Vala Mal Doran was transported to the Ori home galaxy during her successful attempt to destroy the first Supergate, Tomin found her unconscious inside a series of transport rings, believing the Ori had sent her to him. Tomin had been crippled since childhood, and was therefore looked down on by his fellow villagers, who believed the Ori deemed him unfit for normalcy.

After Vala discovered she had been impregnated by the Ori, she was forced to marry Tomin as it was considered an abomination to become pregnant out of wedlock. The timing eventually proved to be close enough, and Tomin became convinced that the baby was his. Soon after, a Prior visited the village and cured Tomin of his limp, allowing him to become a warrior for the Ori.

When Vala was accused of being an anti-Ori sympathizer by Seevis, she was tied to the altar for three days until Tomin gave in and rescued her, without retaliation from Seevis. Shortly afterward, Tomin was visited by a Prior, who explained that the same wound that had made him lame had also made him unable to father children.

Following the activation ceremony of the Ori battlecruisers constructed on Ver Isca, a Prior told Tomin to return to the village, where he would find Seevis and Denya conspiring against the Ori. He obeyed and found them, along with Vala, alongside an Ancient long-range communication device. Tomin subsequently killed both Seevis and Denya, but was convinced to spare Vala who claimed she had been forced. She also revealed that she had overheard his conversation with the Prior, and believed their baby to be a blessing from the Ori themselves.[3]

Tomin and Vala departed aboard the first wave of Ori vessels, entering the Milky Way some days later in the Battle of P3Y-229.[6] Tomin later discovered Daniel Jackson who had ringed on board during the battle, and almost killed him. However, he accidentally wounded his wife, and was stunned by Jackson while he came to her aid.[7]

Tomin would rise to the rank of commander within the Ori warrior armies and become both a skillful as well as ruthless warrior. He had taken many lives in the belief that they were evil unbelievers. While leading the assault on a village that was resisting the word of Origin, his armies managed to capture the mother of the Orici, Vala Mal Doran.

He would take her to his ship under orders from the Orici to convert her to the belief of Origin. Her defiance and attempts to remind him on the lives he has taken tried his patience and he struck her on one occasion. He also asked the Prior in command of the ship for leave of the duty as he believed that he could not convert her. The Prior gave the order that the village they had attacked would be destroyed which Tomin attempted to dissuade the Prior from doing so as he believed that the unbelievers were killed in the initial attack and the survivors were ready to accept Origin into their hearts and were, thus, innocent. The Prior attempted to convince Tomin through a tale within the Book of Origin whose purpose was twisted by the Prior to suit the circumstances.

Tomin would demonstrate even more opposition over this which sparked anger within the Prior who ultimately fired upon the defenseless village from orbit from the ship. Tomin, partially believing his wife Vala's words that Origin was being twisted and a lie, then aided in his wife's escape from the ship stating that he was still in love with her. His fate is now unknown, however, he believed that he would be executed for his treachery once he was discovered.[8]

Tomin apparently survived "Line in the Sand", and makes an appearance in the Stargate SG-1 Movie "Stargate: The Ark of Truth" according to the article herein.

[edit] Unnamed Priors

[edit] Prior #1

Prior #1.
Prior #1.

Prior who visited the village of Ver Eger while Daniel Jackson and Vala Mal Doran were trapped inside the bodies of Harrid and Sallis. He revived Vala after she was burned to death for being "overcome", and later brought both Vala and Jackson to Celestis, city of the Gods.[5] There, he attempted to convert them before introducing Daniel to the Doci. He was subsequently ordered to take the two back to Ver Eger in order to weed out any other "heretics" in the village.

The Prior later tracked Vala, Jackson and Fannis to a basement where he found them using an Ancient long-range communication device. He eventually choked Fannis to death and ordered the two remaining others to be burned alive.[4]

Prior #1 was played by Mark Houghton.

[edit] Prior #2

Prior #2.
Prior #2.

First Prior sent to the Milky Way after the existence of humans in this galaxy became known to the Ori. This particular Prior attempted to convert the people of P3X-421, who previously worshipped the Goa'uld. However, after Dr. Lindsay and SG-12, who were present at the time, came in contact with the Prior, the SGC sent Cameron Mitchell to talk to the missionary.

After the Prior recognised Earth as the home of Daniel Jackson, Mitchell took him back to the SGC, where he eventually burst into flames after it became clear he would never again leave the planet.[4]

Prior #2 was played by Larry Cedar.

[edit] Prior #3

Prior #3.
Prior #3.

Previous governor of the village of Ver Eger. As administrator, he was responsible for conducting religious ceremonies including Prostration, and cleansings of evil spirits, who have been "overcome", by putting them through a Trial by Fire. He was also married. As an award for his loyalty, the Doci summoned him to Celestis, where he was transformed into a Prior.[4]

He was later sent to the Milky Way, where he attempted to convert a village that had once been controlled by Qestesh. However, Vala Mal Doran and SG-1, who were visiting the village at the time, tried to convince the people not to give in to the Ori. Subsequently, the Prior unleashed a deadly plague, killing several villagers before the population was forced to surrender. In return, the Prior cured the plague and even revived the dead, encouraging the witnesses to spread the word of what they had seen.[9]

He would later meet with the leader of the Free Jaffa Nation Gerak and convert him to the faith of Origin while staying secretly on Dakara. He would also be responsible for helping in Geraks transformation into a Prior.[1]

He would return again, this time leading an Ori battleship over a planet that resisted the word of Origin. He was present with Tomin after they managed to capture the mother of the Orici, Vala Mal Doran, and attempted to convert her to Origin. After seeing that members of SG-1 had managed to escape through an interdimensional cloak which he was unable to be pierced, the Prior ordered that the village be destroyed, even after its defenders had been killed and vowed to submit to Origin. He faced opposition from Tomin in this task with the Ori warrior commander stating that they were innocent lives that had been converted. The Prior twisted the words from a story within the Book of Origin which faced even more opposition from the previously loyal Tomin. The Prior would demonstrate the power of the Ori by firing upon the village and leaving the planet, having believed the village was destroyed.[8]

Prior #3 was played by Greg Anderson.

[edit] Prior #4

Prior #4.
Prior #4.

Prior sent to Kallana. Originally tried to convert its people, however, after it became clear the Jaffa there would never bow down to the Ori, the Prior attempted to transform the planet into a micro black hole to power a Supergate using an energy-absorbing shield.

After the SGC learned about the invasion at Kallana, SG-1 was sent to the planet to try to reason with the Prior, and if necessary vaporize the Stargate using a Naquadriah enhanced nuclear warhead. The Prior is believed to have been killed with its detonation, as he was not seen afterwards, and the area within the blast radius was turned into Super-heated Plasma. The ground itself was molten.[10]

Prior #4 was played by Ian Butcher.

[edit] Prior #5

This Prior was seen on the Sodan homeworld. He cursed the Sodan warrior named Volnek, causing him to turn on his fellow Jaffa and kill them all. Only one Sodan survived, Haikon. This Prior was not seen again.[11]

Prior #5 was played by Morris Chapdelaine.

[edit] Prior #6

Prior #6.
Prior #6.

Prior who visited Ver Isca and cured Tomin of his limp, also informing him that he was unable to father children.[3] He was on board one of the Ori battlecruisers invading the Milky Way during the Battle of P3Y-229,[6] and was present during Adria's birth, informing her parents of her divine purpose. He eventually prevented Daniel Jackson, who had ringed on board during the battle, from killing her.[7]

He later accompanied Adria to the world where Morgan le Fay hid the Sangraal where he again encountered SG-1 during their quest for the weapon. Before going after SG-1, Adria ordered him to burn the village, since they refused to accept the teachings of Origin.[12]

Prior #6 was played by Doug Abrahams.

[edit] Prior #7

Prior #7.
Prior #7.

He accompanied Adria to an unnamed world converted to Origin where they addressed 10,000 Ori followers. The planet was eventually attacked by the Jaffa with the Dakara Superweapon, killing him and everyone on the surface.[13]
