Orchard Elementary School

Orchard Elementary School is an elementary school (K-8) in San Jose, California, USA and is the sole school of the Orchard Elementary School District. It has about 40 teachers and 800 students. As of December 2005, its principal is Bradley Yee.

The school has undergone many problems over the years including a bomb scare (later proven to be a box of money and supplies from a fired teacher) embezzlement from the Superintendent (Terry Jones: no longer works there) and the fact that GPA score are low for the average.

The school was a "remake" from the school "Old Orchard"(nickname/Now it is Challenger School (private school). The new school is located on Fox Lane and Oakland Rd. The Old School (Challenger) is located off of Gish Rd. (near the freeway)

Orchard School athletics main program is Volleyball (as of 2004-05). And a Basketball team.

The school hosts many after school programs for the students including:

"Homework club" a class in which kids do their homework with the help of a teacher. Ex: Mr. Wong(6-8 grade) (as of 2004-05)

"Science club" a class that teaches kids science in a more interesting way compared to standard teaching during school hours. Ex: Mr. Kilcrease (as of 2004-05)

Scrabble club" a class that students earn extra credit for their English class. Ex: Ms. Sengupta (as of 2004-05)

In addition the school has many festive activities. Halloween Parade Asian Cultural Dance Troupe International Week Graduation Festival (kindergarten) Graduation (8th grade) Science Camp A Festival (sort of a festival for the school for the end of the school year/ appeared in 2004-05)
