From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Orari School (St Canterbury - New Zealand) was foundered in 1878 and was a fully operating year 1 to 6 primary school in the small rural settlement of Orari until it was shut by the then Labour government during a network review of schools in the South Canterbury schooling district in 2004. Most pupils of Orari School would have progressed to the year 7 to 13 high school in the nearby town of Geraldine (Geraldine high school). At is peak the school had 3 classrooms and more than 60 pupils. It retained 3 classrooms until the mid nineteen nineties when its roll started to drop. When it closed it had 1 teacher and less than 20 pupils.
