Optical Solar Reflector

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Optical Solar Reflector (OSR) exists of a top layer made out of quartz, with a reflecting metal layer at the bottom side.

OSR is used on radiators on space craft. The quartz outer layer lets the solar light through, which reflects on the metal layer. This results in a low absorption coefficient. The quartz layer is a good IR emittor. The result of this properties is a good emitting, low absorbing material, thus a "cold material".

Optical Solar Reflector is also known as Second Surface Mirror (SSM)
