[edit] Name changes

This article needs a thorough review. All in good time. For now, can someone confirm it really did go from the Australian Opera Company to the Elizabethan Theatre Trust Opera Company before changing back to the Australian Opera? The chronology from the article seems to be:

  • 1956, formed as the Australian Opera Company
  • 1957, changed its name to the Elizabethan Theatre Trust Opera Company
  • 1970, changed to the Australian Opera
  • 1996, changed to Opera Australia. JackofOz 12:19, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
Take a look at the Usher article referenced in Ext. links; it confirms the 2 final steps. I'll get some more together on the other changes. Strange as they may be, all are verifiable and represent the convoluted history of the company in its early years.

Vivaverdi 17:17, 20 April 2006 (UTC) The last three paragraphs of this section have nothing to do with Opera Australia - they are about a new Victorian Opera Company. Doesn't really belong here?h Also, look at the 2nd external link article on the operas presented from 1970 to 1996. It clearly shows the progress of the names. Wierd maybe, but true. And it's all confirmed in this "Playbill" piece:

[edit] 3rd busiest?

Is it really the 3rd busiest opera company in the world after the Met and Covent Garden? I would have thought that there would be others ahead. The Wiener Staatsoper, La Scala, Paris Bastille spring to mind. Any views? Orbicle 12:18, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

It depends upon what "busiest" means... More productions? Then most German houses surely do more?? More performances? The same proably applies, ditto months/weeks/days of performances in a given year. I guess that someone needs to do some research. Vivaverdi 14:56, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
