Operation Tractable was a military operation commanded by the 2nd Canadian Corps in Normandy in August 1944. Its aim was to break German defenses blocking the Caen to Falaise highway and to allow the British 2nd Army to break out of the Normandy bridgehead.
Following D-Day, The Canadian Army made a push for Caen and Falaise. Preceding Operation Tractable were many other operations, including Operation Goodwood, (British Army) Operation Atlantic (Canadian equivalent of 'Operation Goodwood') and Operation Totalize (a breakout from the Normandy bridgehead along the Caen-Falaise highway).
Tractable was the follow-on to Totalize.
