Operation Herbstnebel (Antwerp)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Unternehmen Herbstnebel ("Operation Autumn Mist") was a plan created by Field Marshal Walther Model and his Army Group B operational staff under directives from Führer Adolf Hitler for a two pronged attack to seize Antwerp. Field Marshal Gerd von Rundstedt, commander OB WEST, had also been engaged in planning known as "Fall Martin" ("Case Martin").
Following a review by Hitler in late October 1944 Model incorporated much of Fall Martin into Herbstnebel and it was this revised planning that was launched as "Wacht am Rhein" ("Watch along the Rhine") in December 1944. The resulting fighting later became popularly known as the Battle of the Bulge.
