[edit] Introduction
With the help of OpenPHPNuke, online websites can easily be managed via a web browser. OpenPHPNuke is fully modular and with its more than 100 modules most current online requirements can be fulfilled.
Unlike other PHPNuke Forks the whole system is modular. Modern techniques are used to provide a secure and stable system. A user and permission management similar to that in Unix is implemented. Extensive and powerful tools for administration are provided for everyday use.
[edit] Historical
- The beginnings
The roots of OpenPHPNuke are found in version 4 of PHP-Nuke (PHP-Nuke itself is born out of Thatware). Out of this a new fork was built, called MYPHPNuke (MPN). Dissatisfied with the development of MyPHPNuke, some German developers used the source code of MPN from the early versions of OpenPHPNuke to implement their own visions of Content Management, called OpenPHPNuke.
- OpenPHPNuke
Now, from the original code only the phrase Nuke remains. Most of the Core system was coded new, designed to a framework. Programming Standards were built and the HTML was changed to today's web standards, content and layout are separated and all modules are valid XHTML.
From December 2001 until September 2003 three developers headed the first release, supported by about 30 beta testers. The development was done somehow behind the scene, in the background, to get the optimum code without pressure from the community.
In September 2003 the Release Candidate (RC1) was published and since then the community has steadily grown.
- The heads behind it
The main developers are: Stefan Kaletta, Heinz Hombergs and Alexander Weber which are pushing the development towards a Content Management System for everybody's needs.
