The Opel Speedster is a roadster produced from 2001 to 2005 by Lotus for General Motors's subsidiary Opel and was also badged as Vauxhall VX220 for the UK market. In addition, South Korea's GM-Daewoo has also had Speedsters displayed with the Daewoo badge. The Speedster has a lot in common with the Lotus Elise and they are characterized by strong performance and superb handling. They're small and mostly made from aluminium which makes it light. It only weighs about a ton (more specificly about 900 kilograms).

Since the beginning of their production Speedster and VX220 were powered by GM's 2.2 L 16-valve Ecotec L61 engine producing 147 hp ECE (108 kW). Since 2003, they are also available with a 2.0 L turbocharged version of this engine producing 200 hp ECE (147 kW). Thanks in part to the car's light weight, the turbo version is able to reach the top speed of 242 km/h (151 mph) and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.9 seconds.

The base price was around €32,000 for the 2.2 and €36,000 for the turbocharged version.

The car was featured in the racing video games Forza Motorsport, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, Gran Turismo 3, Gran Turismo 4 and Sega GT 2002.
