Ontario High School (California)

Ontario High School is a public secondary school in Ontario, California. It is one of the eleven schools of the Chaffey Joint Union High School District.^[1]

Ontario High School was built sometime between 1955 and 1967.^[2]

Ontario High we look with pride upon your hallowed halls.

Our aims are high, our hearts are brave we harken to your call.

As onward through the years we go our memories we will hold.

And in our hearts we'll always know that victory is our goal.^[3]

Ontario High School follows a standard California high school curriculum as defined by the California Department of Education's High School Graduation Requirements and tests students with the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) program and the California High School Exit Exam.

Students have the opportunity to earn college credit through College Board Advanced Placement (AP) courses. In addition, Ontario High School has many honors classes, supports the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program, the National Honors Society, and participates in the nationwide Renaissance program.

[edit] Fine Arts

Ontario High School supports a wide array of fine and performing arts including art, art history, music appreciation, drama, choir, dance, band, percussion, and color guard classes.

[edit] Marching Band and Color Guard

The Ontario High School Jaguar Band and Color Guard consists of the instruments, percussionists (Drum Corps), and color guard performers. They compete in the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA) circuit under the direction of Dave Berry for marching season during the first three months of the academic year. The team has won many awards from band tournaments and marched in several parades.

For the remainder of the year the Color Guard competes as a "winter guard" against other guards while the instrument and percussion sections have their orchestral season. The band's major performances are the Holiday Showcase, Music Americana, and Pops! concerts. The Music Americana concert is unique because the band performs with the United States Marine Corps Band. The Color Guard also has several acts during the Holiday Showcase and Pops! concerts.

Ontario High School has a diverse sports program that includes baseball, basketball, cheer, cross country, football, golf, swimming, soccer, tennis, track, volleyball, water polo, and wrestling. Throughout the school's history, the sports teams have won numerous league and CIF-Southern Section Central Division championships.

During the 2006-2007 season, the boys water polo team went to the CIF championships.

Like many high schools throughout Southern California, Ontario High School has its share of notable faculty and alumni.

• Shelly Martinez professional WE/ECW wrestler, actress, and model. ^[4].
• Antonio Pierce, National Football League Pro Bowl linebacker for the New York Giants.^[5]
• Jeff Rudy, Director of Football Operations, University of Utah. Former Ontario High School athletic director and offensive coordinator in 2003-2005.^[6][7]
• Mike Sweeney, Major League Baseball player for the Kansas City Royals.^[8] Graduated and helped the varsity team win the CIF state title with a 26-0 record in 1991.^[9]
• Al Newman, Major League Baseball player for the Minnesota Twins. Member of Twins 1987 and 1991 World Championship Teams.^[10]
