Onsen Geisha (温泉芸者) is a negative term synonymous with prostitute. They are prostitutes who work in the resort towns in Japan, such as Atami, and market themselves as geisha. In Atami, the official registry office regards long-time, proven geisha separate from those who have not yet completed their first year.

Onsen Geisha commonly follow one distinctive difference in their clothing which will be great help to those travelling. The Obi is tied in the front instead of the back as with a traditional Geisha. This symbol is portrayed as "Easy access" or "For Sale" vs the traditional Geisha who sell themselves as an entertainer. (This may not be true. The obi tied at the front was done by the oiran of Tokyo and the tayuu of Kyoto, also known as courtesans. For their public shows, the onsen geisha wear kimono and wigs similar to those worn by the geisha of Kyoto and Tokyo and Osaka)
