Onota Township is a civil township of Alger County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township population was 310.

There are no incorporated municipalities in the township.
- Deerton is an unincorporated community at . Deerton began as a station on the Detroit, Mackinaw and Marquette Railroad in 1882. A post office has been in operation there since 1922 and currently serve ZIP Code 49822. [1][2]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 249.0 km² (96.1 mi²). 227.9 km² (88.0 mi²) of it is land and 21.1 km² (8.1 mi²) of it (8.47%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 310 people, 146 households, and 100 families residing in the township. The population density was 1.4/km² (3.5/mi²). There were 373 housing units at an average density of 1.6/km² (4.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.06% White and 1.94% Native American.
There were 146 households out of which 17.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.7% were married couples living together, 2.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.5% were non-families. 24.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.12 and the average family size was 2.50.
In the township the population was spread out with 14.2% under the age of 18, 4.5% from 18 to 24, 20.3% from 25 to 44, 38.7% from 45 to 64, and 22.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 50 years. For every 100 females there were 106.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 112.8 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $38,750, and the median income for a family was $44,500. Males had a median income of $38,750 versus $22,188 for females. The per capita income for the township was $24,267. About 3.8% of families and 7.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.8% of those under age 18 and 7.7% of those age 65 or over.
