The students are taken on a survival training expedition by Mr. Moleguaco. Some of the students are undertaking underwater survival, Kavo and the cheerleaders are in lava training, and Kuzco, Malina and Kronk are in jungle training. This involves spending 24 hours in the jungle without provisions. After Mr. Molguaco leaves, Kronk begins to panic, until he realises that he is a Junior Chipmunk. Although his tent-making skills leave room for improvement.

Kuzco raises Malina's suspicions when he produces a wheelbarrow full of items such as pillows. Malina and Kronk follow him to a secret cave - the Emergency Emperor Bunker. The interior is filled with luxury items, including a ping pong table and a hot tub. Malina convinces Kuzco to join her and Kronk in the wild.

After disastrous attempts at fishing and tent-making, among other activities, Kuzco leaves the three of them with no food, water or shelter. A sudden downpour sees all three give up and head for the Bunker. When Mr. Molguaco returns, Kuzco owns up and takes all the responsibility. Since technically they are the only group to have fulfilled the assignment's criteria, the three of them are given pass marks, before making a quick escape.

Kronk refers to his status as a Junior Chipmunk, a position first seen in The Emperor's New Groove.
Yzma makes no appearance.
Kuzco gets turned into: Nothing.
"Pull the lever" gag: None. But Kuzco's secret cave has a similar entrance. Malina tells her companion to "Pull the vine, Kronk!". She is trapped under a giant vase, only for Kronk to tell her "that happened before to Yzma!", as in Hungry Hungry Llama.
Bucky appears: accepting an acorn from Mr. Molguaco, before jumping on his hat and scaring him. He later does the same thing to Kuzco. He also eats the acorns in "Kuzco's doodles."
"Kuzco's doodles": Kuzco's camping tips, including "campfires and water don't mix", "birds don't like to share their eggs", "lots of trees look exactly the same", "don't mark your trail with acorns" and "people get really mad in the jungle".
End credits: Kuzco makes a disclaimer that a student seen earlier in the underwater training shot, wasn't really killed by a shark. Although he is less than convincing...
