[edit] Plot
The film adheres to the core plot of the Biblical narrative, while adding stylistic elements not present in the Biblical story. The Jewish narrative of the relationship between Esther and Xerxes was not a love story, but a forced marriage in which Esther had no choice. The movie portrays it as a love story, adding palace intrigue and a Star of David. (David had ruled in Israel around 500 years earlier before the exile of the Israelites into Babylon and then into Persia in 597 BCE.)
