One Nation Under a Groove (song)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One Nation Under a Groove is a song by Funkadelic, from their 1978 album One Nation Under a Groove. The song was a top 40 hit that year, peaking at #31, and is now regarded as a funk classic. Compared to Funkadelic's earlier, rock-related material, the song is very funky. The lyrics refer to dancing as a way to freedom, though the "dancing" could be easily seen as a metaphor of breaking boundaries, keeping with the album's theme. The song is interesting in that there are no extended instrumental solos, even if the song is close to eight minutes in length. Its popularity has led it to have been included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of 500 songs that shaped rock 'n' roll.
