[edit] Episode recap
After Garfield ruins Jon’s plants, Jon threatens to not let him watch his favorite movie, Attack of the Giant Pod People. Jon is then determined to find a Garfield-proof fern, so he goes to the arboretum. The visually-impaired florist (Mr. Rhizome) gives him a new fern to take home, but after Jon leaves, it is revealed that he was actually given a carnivorous fern.
When Jon gets the fern home, Garfield is just about to attack it until Jon reiterates his warning. Garfield then goes over to the easy chair to watch television, and the fern starts moving in the background. Garfield notices this but decides that he’s just imagining things, so he continues to watch TV until the fern grabs him and tries to eat him.
Jon initially thinks Garfield is trying to eat the fern until the fern also grabs him and Odie. Garfield manages to break free and then he threatens the fern with a food processor. Mr. Rhizome then breaks down the door with a whip and chair (à la lion taming), and he whips the fern into submission. He then gives Jon the correct plant and leaves.
Garfield, Jon and Odie decide to relax by watching television. They turn on Attack of the Giant Pod People, but they soon learn that the movie is about plant-like creatures that eat people. They then decide to turn to a show about crocheting.
[edit] Quotes
Jon: [Reading] Keep [fern] adequately lit, but well away from heat, indirect rays of the sun, and from cats named Garfield.
Garfield: Hey, I’m famous!
Jon: Garfield, get help!
Garfield: Get help? What am I gonna do? “Hello, police? I’d like to report a geranium eating my friends”?
