The One Who Flew Out of the Cuckoo's Nest (1) is the one hundred-seventy ninth episode of the American television series The Golden Girls. It was the first part of the two-part final episode of the series. It first aired on May 9, 1992.

Blanche has just received a call from her Uncle Lucas, telling her that he is arriving in town and wants to spend some time with her. However, Blanche already has a date and doesn't want to give it up. Blanche is able to convince Dorothy that her Uncle Lucas wants to meet her. When Dorothy and Lucas realize that Blanche lied to them, they decide to get revenge on her by pretending to be in love. Later, Blanche, Rose, and Sophia are shocked to find that Lucas wants to marry Dorothy and she accepts his proposal.

- Bea Arthur decided to leave the show at the start of the season. It was decided that the show would end.
- Betty White, Estelle Getty and Rue McClanahan wished to continue to play their roles despite Arthur's departure. So it was decided that Dorothy would marry and leave the house. The three remaining ladies would star in a spin-off series entitled The Golden Palace.
- Dorothy's speech at the end of the episode, when she is saying goodbye, was actually improvised by Bea Arthur.
