ondal was born at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, California and spent his formative years in Danville, California. He received a black belt of the first degree when he was in 6th grade. His teacher was Master Byung Hyung Yu.

Trivia ondal took his name from a korean folk story called "Ondal the Fool," translated from Korean.
