[edit] History

The company was founded in 1998 under the name Newsource with an initial idea to become a distribution center for Internet-based video press releases.

[edit] 1999 - 2002: Financial News

In 1999, the company changed its name to ON24 and changed its focus to being an online financial news streaming media source. ON24 Financial News was one of the first news operations to provide on-demand streaming audio and video news product made specifically for an Internet audience. At its height in 2000, the ON24 News staff numbered more than 100 with international reporters in cities such as New York, London and Tel Aviv.

ON24 News content was syndicated to various financial portals such as Merrill Lynch, E*Trade and Nasdaq. During this time, ON24 was developing new software techniques and technologies for developing an Internet-based, personalized broadcast network. In 2005, ON24 was granted a patent for this concept.

ON24 closed its news organization in August 2002 after producing more than 70,000 webcasts.

[edit] 2002 - Present: Corporate Webcasting

The second half of 2002 was a period of refocusing for the company. ON24 put its resources into building out the web-based network and software originally developed for news into a platform offering webcasting opportunities geared toward corporate clients.

In 2003, ON24 introduced a web-based, self-publishing webcasting platform, ON24 Webcast Center, which enabled customers to produce live and on-demand audio or video webcasts. As of 2006, ON24 counts among its clients such companies as Cisco Systems, Hewlett-Packard, Cardinal Health, CNET and CMP Media. As of January 2006, ON24 said it had broadcast more than 100,000 webcasts.
