[edit] Congrats for your efforts too!
Thanks a lot for the star, Ombudsman.
In a certain sense it makes me feel bad since I had not congratulated you publicly for your own efforts, which predate mine for quite a while, in combating psychiatric pseudoscience in Wikiland.
However, I wouldn’t be surprised if another editor awards you a star in the near future for the same cause! —Cesar Tort 04:40, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright question
Hi there. I was wondering if you could check on the copyright status of the following image: [1] I want to use it on the Minamata disease article which I have been editing recently. I obtained the image from a website called Masters of Photography. In their FAQ it states that "You are free to use up to five or six images from the site for any personal non-profit, educational purpose.", subject to a link back to their website. What copyright tag would be correct in this instance? Thanks for any help you can give. Bobo12345 21:35, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My RfA
For those of you who supported my RfA, I highly appreciate your kind words and your trust in me. For those who opposed - many of you expressed valid concerns regarding my activity here; I will make an effort in addressing them as time goes on while at the same time using my admin tools appropriately. So, salamat, gracias, merci, ありがとう, спасибо, धन्यवाद, 多謝, agyamanak unay, شكرًا, cảm ơn, 감사합니다, mahalo, ขอบคุณครับ, go raibh maith agat, dziękuję, ευχαριστώ, Danke, תודה, mulţumesc, გმადლობთ, etc.! If you need any help, feel free to contact me.
PS: I took the company car (pictured left) out for a spin, and well... it's not quite how I pictured it. --Chris S. 23:33, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] My RfA thanks
Hello Ombudsman/Archive03, and thank you for your support at my Request for Adminship, which succeeded with an overwhelming final count of (105/2/0). I was very pleased with the outpouring of kind words from the community that has now entrusted me with these tools, from the classroom, the lesson in human psychology and the international resource known as Wikipedia. The Free Encyclopedia. Please feel free to leave me plenty of requests, monitor my actions (through the admin desk on my userpage) and, if you find yourself in the mood, listen to some of what I do in real life. In any case, keep up the great work and have a fabulous day. Grandmasterka 06:11, 19 July 2006 (UTC) |
[edit] Your comment on deletion review regarding Joel Leyden
This one: [2] Political? How so? I don't see it. Please explain. --woggly 17:51, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- In other words, when you say politics you mean Wikipolitics as opposed to national or international politics? --woggly 05:10, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Your username
Anthere initiated a discussion on the Foundation-l mailing list yesterday about the Ombudsman as an official position of Wikimedia and the thread has been quite active since. Most of the thread has been about a conflict with your username.
Posters have suggested different solutions to the problem. For example, some suggested you be requested to change your name or place a disclaimer at the top of your userpage making it clear you are not the official Wikimedia Ombudsman. The main concern is that some users will confuse you for the official Wikimedia Ombudsman.
Would you be happy with either of the two possibilities I just mentioned? Can you suggest another way to get around this problem? Hope to hear back from you soon, Oldak Quill 21:08, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What Happened (from a newby)
Please take a look at Fortran article, edit history-tab. There are two edits 15 Aug 05:56, I think one changed a date to 1999 and "IBM" to "eESHIT", the 2nd edit restored the original text. The edits seem to have different user ids? What happened?

[edit] RfA thanks
Thank you very much for participating in my RFA, which closed successfully today with a result of (62/18/3). I will go very carefully at first, trying to make sure I don't mess up too badly using the tools, and will begin by re-reading all the high-quality feedback I received during the process, not least from those who opposed me. Any further advice/guidance will be gratefully accepted. I hope I will live up to your trust! Guinnog 14:44, 30 August 2006 (UTC)} |

[edit] Wikiality
Talk:Wikiality (and others) points out many reasons why Wikiality should remain a redirect and not an article. I've yet to see you post any message on the talk page regarding your efforts to make it an article, and you seem to have ignored the messages on the talk page and the messages in edit summaries that revert it back to a redirect. Take a look at WP:POINT at why this is a bad thing. If you feel that it should become an article then I invite you to the talk page to address the concerns stated there. -- Ned Scott 05:41, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] News Update: Medical Genetics Wikiproject article assesment
One of the tasks of the WP:MEDGENP is to assess all unrated articles listed on the article rating page so that the quality of the articles within the scope of the project can be seen at a glance. This was previously updated only manually, but now the ratings are also harvested daily by a bot and the results posted here, with significant changes from the previous rating listed here. If you would like to assess an article relating to genetic disorders you can add the relevant template to the article talk page, which will add the article to the relevant category and will be monitored by the bot. |
A new assessment category {{GA-Class}} (Good Article) has been added for articles that have been assessed as a Good Article. |
There is also a new category Category:Acquired genetic disorders for genetic disorders that are not inherited. Please add this category to any articles you think may qualify. |
If you are registered to use the AutoWikiBrowser (AWB) (requires Windows 2000/XP + .NET framework v.2) there is a Wikipedia Assessments plugin that is designed to make the assessment process faster and easier (about the plugin / user guide). It has an assessments mode, for reviewing articles, and a talk page tagging mode for reviewing articles. Users with more than 500 mainspace edits can register to use the AWB |

Are you talking about issues within the Tawkerbot2 family (which more or less runs blind nowadays) or is it another bot you've seen gone wonky. [edit] 10/12/06 An experienced administrator should look at Anabolic steroid article. (safety?)
Hi, I'm concerned about some of the reassuring prose in parts of the current article. That prose could well be accurate and verifiable for all I know, but just in case it isn't, it needs to be looked at. I did put "article needs help from expert" on it. I don't want anyone to be harmed and I don't want wikipedia to be harmed from liability suits. Thanks,Rich 07:55, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My RFA!
Ombudsman, thank you so much for your support for my RfA. I passed with a vote tally of 61/0/1. I am honored that the consensus was to allow me the added privilege of the admin mop. I appreciate your support! --plange 21:57, 22 October 2006 (UTC) |
[edit] Recommendation
I have seen the thorough informativeness of your work, and I am impressed. You also seem to be a fair person, from what I can tell. I recommend that you run for admin. I can nominate you if you want, assuming that I am not too busy IRL. GoodCop
- Yes, an admin nomination would be appreciated. As you imply, fairness of mop-wielding decisions, in general, ought to be a serious consideration. You might also want to notify Osbus, who earlier made the recommendation, and may still want to sign on as a co-nominator. Thanks for the kind comments. Ombudsman 18:52, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

- I don't. I think it would be a very bad idea. Midgley 14:13, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

-There's the RfA nomination tag. I'm having trouble entering the nomination into the RfA page though. It might work now that this tag is here. GoodCop 03:18, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
...I got everything working now. Your nomination is now on the WP:RfA page, so accept the nomination there after you read this. GoodCop 03:50, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
-I should note, by the way, that the user Mike1 helped me with the RfA process, and cast your first support vote. GoodCop 03:55, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
another update: Your RfA was removed from the main WP:RfA page, because (as I just learned) you must accept the nomination and answer the questions on your personal RfA page before it is placed on the main page. After you accept the nomination and answer the questions, enter your RfA on the main WP:RfA page by entering (Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Ombudsman) (with double fancy brackets where the parentheses are) on the top of the list of candidates. [edit] re:RfA thanks
Your attitude in the face of defeat is welcome and encouraging, although I didn't support your RfA this time around, that is not to say I won't in the future, We all make mistakes and others will make mistakes about us, the important thing is how we react to it, some will get angry, resentful or just throw in the towel and refuse to ever learn from others, I'm glad to see you didn't take that approach , I agree with xaosflux who said in your RfA "Yes its an indefinite probation, but that doesn't mean infinite, I'd seek to get that cleared up before going for RFA again" I would work to that end regardless or not you ever desire to become an administrator again, hopefully you will overcome this set back, as it looks like your on your way of doing. [edit] Concordia Newsletter
Concordia is currently trying to relaunch. I, and all the members of the ex-council, wish to welcome new members to the group. We are a group who aim to promote remaining civil, in an environment where messages can easily be interpretated wrongly.
[edit] Help out now!
- Try and help people remain civil! Talk to them, and help them in any way possible. Do not be afraid to use the talk page.
- Give people the Civility Barnstar.
- Make and spread some Wikitokens so people know there are people to help if they want assistance.
- Add banners or logos to your userpage to show your support.
- Suggest some ideas! Add 'em to the talk page.
We are a community, so can only work though community contributions and support. It's the helping that counts.
[edit] Decision Making
The council expired one month ago, but due to the current position of the group the current council will remain until the position of the group can be assessed, and whether it would be sensible to keep Concordia going. For most decisions, however, it will be decided by all who choose to partake in discussions. I am trying to relaunch because of the vast amounts of new members we have received, demonstrating that the aims are supported.
If you wish to opt of of further talk-page communications, just let us know here.

[edit] Request for help from a newbie
Ombudsman, Thank you for welcoming me. Been reading wiki a long time, contributing a few facts here and there before registering in August. I still feel overwhelmed but I am reading the links you offered. I am confused about the "single user" charge made on the Trevor Marshall bio page. When the admin addressed it, instead of investigating the allegation, it seemed as though he accepted it is true. I thought there was a policy to be nice to newbies and allow them time to learn. Please help me understand: when the admin re-listed the article for deletion, was he directing people to disregard my contribution? Or to disregard the allegation? There's no point for me to contribute in the future if he's told everyone to disregard me. Can't an admin see when people registered? Two other questions: 1) Is it acceptable to solicit others on their user talk page, so they can offer their opinion on a proposed AfD? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Savisha 2) what is the process for a *re-listed* article for deletion? Do we just follow the same rules all over again? Thanks, I appreciate any help toward my understanding.Sarabrate 05:43, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
Thanks for your welcome on my user page. Could you add one more link for me? I found a page that has split into two pages, or I guess copied into two pages, but the original is still there and this is the only one people are still editing. I think it needs to be turned into a disambig page? With links to the other two articles? I found Articles That Need to be Deleted page, but that's not what I'm looking for. Thanks Dikke poes 16:14, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
