Om Shanti Om is a forthcoming Hindi film to be directed by Farah Khan. It stars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in pivotal roles. The film's score and soundtrack will be composed by the musical duo, Vishal-Shekhar with lyrics by renowned poet, Gulzar. Music sittings for the film were recently held at Chennai. Cinematography for the movie is handled by V. Manikandan whilst editing is handled by Shirish Kunder, both who have previously worked with Khan in Main Hoon Na. The film is said to be based on reincarnation. Shooting of the film will begin in January 2007 at various locations in India . The film is slated for release sometime in late 2007. According to the press (As of Sept 5th,06), the director Farah Khan wants to incorporate latin superstar Shakira in this movie to perform in one of the songs. This collaboration was born when both of them agreed to work together at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards.

The story centers on an artist, Om (Shahrukh Khan), who grows up in the seventies, meets the love of his life (Deepika Padukone) and shortly thereafter suffers an untimely demise. He is immediately reincarnated and the story flash-forwards to the present day. Haunted by the memories of his past life and love, he attempts to not only solve the mystery of his death, but also reunite with the love of his past life. The problem is that she is now much older than him and does not believe that he is the reincarnation of the man she once loved.[1]

Rumoured to be inspired by the Hollywood movie Chances Are (1989) starring where an attorney (Robert Downey Jr.) is reborn and tries to find his wife (Cybill Shepard) from his previous life.
Farah Khan who was supposed to do Happy New Year scrapped that project to do this film.
Shakira has expressed her desire to work in this movie after being choreographed by Farah. Also, she has stated that she is familiar with Shah Rukh Khan.
