1988

Perhaps the boycotting countries of 1988 could also be included on the map in some way. From memory, these were North Korea, Cuba, Ethiopia, Nicaragua and yet again, Albania. I think the Seychelles and Madagascar may also not have attended due to other reasons....

Could colouring of the map be approved by any sources? In particular, China's boycott of 1980 Summer Olympics seems doubtful for me. PRC didn't compete at the previous Olympics. So, did it actually boycotted 1980 Games or wouldn't compete in any case? Cmapm 18:52, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Thats a good question. It was suprisingly difficult to find the complete list of 65/66 countries which boycotted these games so I dont know if China is included in them or not. But China at that point was a western ally so it would probably have joined in the boycott -- Astrokey44|talk 00:06, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
The UK was a western ally too... "would probably have joined in the boycott" is not an argument. You claim, that China boycotted the Games. Either you cite your sources for this or I nominate the image for deletion as not just incomplete, but also with no sources cited. I shall also delete it from other language Wikis, all the more, that this image was included into other language Wikis only for the article on 1980 Olympics, and surprisingly wasn't included for 1976 and 1984 ones. Furthermore, I've just known, that it's incomplete not just for countries, which boycotted 1980 Games, but also incomplete for countries, which participated in 1980 Games - e.g. Mali, Botswana and Mozambique participated there, but are coloured in grey. Sorry, but I'll nominate the image for deletion in a while. Cmapm 09:59, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
PRC boycotted 1980 Olympic Games. She took part in 1980 winter games but didn't participate in summer games in Moscow due to the tense Sino-Soviet relation and Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Anthony Gao 07:04, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
ok also China is listed at the (february) 1980 Winter Olympics as having participated in them. I will add China back --Astrokey44 14:21, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Just to add, PR China boycotted the 1976 and 1980 games. In 1976 it was due to issues concerning recognition of Taipei as the "Republic of China" by the IOC, this may have also been the cause in 1980 rather than as the result of the American boycott although I don't know that for sure. The map should be changed to reflect non-participation in 1976. They only agreed to attend the 1984 games if "Republic of China" was renamed to "Chinese Taipei" which it remains today in Olympic competition.--Jackyd101 05:26, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Are you sure Chad boycotted the 1980 olympics? It doesn't seem very probable. I think confusion has been made between Chad's forced non participation due the total anarchy in the country; in 1980, the country had no central government, and civil war reigned supremed with pitched battles fought in the capital.--Aldux 16:51, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Albania

AFAIK, Albania did not participate in any of the 1976, 1980, 1984 Olympic games. Someone should correct this entry.. 193.92.80.91 18:27, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

It is listed as being part of the boycott on American-led boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics --Astrokey44 01:39, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Iran & Libya

These two countries are not colored correctly. The 1984 Summer Olympics page states, "Iran and Libya also boycotted the games, citing political reasons, but were not a part of the Soviet led boycott", so Libya should be colored orange (boycotted '76 & '84) and Iran needs a new color (boycotted '76, '80 & '84). -- Hux 13:13, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] China again

So according to Astrokey's edit summary, he included China into boycotting 1980 Summer Olympics countries list again due to the fact, that it participated in the 1980 Winter Olympics. But I believe this is not enough - there is a clear difference between "deciding not to compete" and "deciding to join the boycott". If China in fact joined the boycott, please provide a clear reference to its corresponding statement. Cmapm 21:54, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

No any official citation there, but better than nothing though. Cmapm 00:43, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
