[edit] Welcome and thanks

OD, Welcome to the Wikpedia. I hesitate to make suggestions as to things you might find useful as a new WPian, since you are already doing well by finding problems with my edits. I have no idea what happened (software hiccough?) at Password cracking, but I've gone and repaired the missing bit. Thanks for pointing it out.

If you're interested (dare I say?) ambitious about security topics and crypto particularly, you might want to consult Wikipedia:WikiProject Cryptography which several WP cryptiacs are using as an organizational tool to improve WP crypto coverage. In particular, you might want to chyme in on the y vs i question (follow the link under 'discussions' on the project page). TT amusement is not amiss as well. ww 14:48, 4 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Thank you Ww for you hint.

I didn't know about WikiProjects, and after a quick glance, I think it's a very well organized/thought collaborative tool.

I'm indeed very interested in cryptography and all computer security related topics, but given the high quality of the existing articles, I for sure won't be able to do more than minor additions. Anyway, those seem to be also made up of minor additions, right ? Besides, my mothertongue isn't English, and I would hesitate to produce lengthy writings, especially for the nice 'cypher vs cipher debate' :-)

Take care. --Olivier Debre 13:55, 5 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I'd like to second ww's welcome! Don't worry if your mothertongue isn't English; if you want to write an article, please do so; others can go through it afterwards and fix any problems (I'm sure there wouldn't be many!); you might also like to translate articles into your own language, since Wikipedia has several editions in different languages — in cryptography, the English Wikipedia is most complete (although German isn't too far behind). — Matt 14:45, 5 Aug 2004 (UTC)
